What Happened to the Clerk?

Village Code was revised on May 20, 2008 changing the village’s description of how the Village Clerk should perform the statutory (Rules created by the State of Illinois) duties.  Village of Campton Hills Ordinance 0-08-16.

This change took away nearly all of her duties and put them in the hands of the Village Law firm and others. This change included removing the clerk’s indemnification (protection from frivolous law suits that might be directed toward her personally in performing her duties).

Late in June, The State’s Attorney of Kane County met with the Village and advised them of potential liability in preventing the clerk from performing her duties.

An Emergency meeting of the Board was held on July 8, 2008 and the board made an exception to their code to allow the Clerk to perform her job as clerk by certifying the Dissolution Petition.

Efforts continue by several groups to correct the illegal ordinances that the Village has passed in their continuing efforts to rule, not govern.
